On iPhone 2.0.2, 3G dropped calls, and power

Roughly Drafted has the inside scoop on why AT&T is pushing the 2.0.2 firmware so aggressively. Go read the post, but in short, it seems an algorithm on the iPhone 3G required too much power from the AT&T transmitters. When the transmitters run short of power, some people will experience dropped calls.

App Store for iPhone: Serious business

The number of games on the App Store is amazing. It is currently the most populated category and is only going to increase as developers unlock the power of the device. The “What’s Hot” grouping also shows that they are among the most popular apps (based on whatever algorithm Apple uses).

iPhone firmware 2.0.1 out

Firmware 2.0.1 is downloadable via iTunes now. Applying the firmware as I type this. It’s a hefty 249MB and is filled with “bug fixes”. More to come.

OmniFocus for iPhone video guide

OmniGroup has posted a video guide to OmniFocus for iPhone. If you are curious as to how location services works with OmniFocus, the video does a nice quick explanation. As a side note, Michaela’s voice reminds me of GLaDOS from Portal.

Taking screenshots of your iPhone

To take a screenshot, just hold down the home button while quickly pressing the sleep/wake button at the top of the phone. The screen will flash and an image will be saved in your Camera Roll

On the iPhone App Store

I’ve upgraded my iPhone (EDGE) to v2 firmware and updated iTunes to 7.7 and then checked out the App Store. Thoughts so far on the firmware and the apps:

Push email from MobileMe is great. I may have to forward mail from my usual address to the .Mac account.
Multiple email deletion and moving is very nice. [...]

Using OmniFocus to track your D&D character

Talk about your über-geeky: Joel at OmniGroup has posted his method of tracking characters in OmniFocus. Fourth edition D&D is a sea change in the way powers, abilities, and just about everything else, and his method is interesting. Again, über-geeky but so crunchy.
