On the Gateway 24″ FHD2400 LCD

I recently bought the Gateway FHD2400 24″ LCD for my new gaming box. It has an impressive list of features:

1920×1200 native resolution
Faroudja® video processing
4 USB ports
HDMI, VGA, DVI-D, Component, Composite and S-Video inputs
Optional speaker bar - that I did not buy.
Rotating screen for landscape and portrait viewing
A stand that allows the user to adjust height [...]

AIM with GMail

I missed this post on Google’s blog. In short, if you use the web client to get to your GMail, “you can sign into their AIM accounts via Gmail chat and talk with AIM buddies just as they do with their Google Talk friends.”

I wish I could quit you, Comcast

While I am suffering with daily outages that last from hours to days, threatening to send me into a spree of destruction, Verizon is offering even more bandwidth to FIOS customers. Engadget reports VZ is offering up to 50Mbps/20Mbps at $139.95. If that price is hard to swallow, you can also get 30/15Mbps for $89.95, [...]

Pownce public API

Leah Culver announced a couple of days ago the release of a public API for Pownce. A quick glance over on the Google PownceAPI group seems to indicate that they have some work to do, but it is the step in the right direction. I want to see a light client like Twitterific that doesn’t [...]

Google mail supports IMAP

Download Squad reported that GMail at long last supports IMAP. I just checked one of my Google-hosted domains, and lo! it is there.

Interestingly, they specifically address the iPhone in their configuration instructions. As a note, you must set up Gmail as IMAP, and not per the stock Gmail settings on the iPhone. “(Note: don’t [...]

Jaiku acquired by Google

I’ve been using Twitter and Pownce to some degree, but did not pay much attention to Jaiku. Well, looks like someone was. Jaiku announced being bought by Google. I don’t think there are enough social networking and micro-blogging sites out there.

Amazon beta MP3 store

I tried the Amazon MP3 beta store two night ago and came away pretty impressed. While the UI is not as slick as the dedicated iTunes application, searching, purchasing, and downloading music was very easy. I bought a few Amy Winehouse tracks, and the music was 89¢ or 99¢ a track, ripped at 256 VBR [...]

Broken computers and TiVos and phones

Go home, apply a Windows Update to the new gaming machine. On reboot it dies. I spend 2 to 3 hours troubleshooting and find there are a lot of bad sectors on the hard drive. Run to Best Buy and spend too much on a new drive so I can get going again. Go home, [...]

More cores or more speed?

AMD’s Phenom is still not out, and with World in Conflict, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts, Team Fortress 2, and a slew of other games coming, it’s time to build a new PC. I am debating on buying the Intel Q6600 Quad Core, the Core 2 Duo E6850, or saving a [...]

Moved to gallery2

I moved over to Gallery2 from Coppermine tonight. I preferred Coppermine in the past due to the slow speed of Gallery2. I’ll see how it goes and please excuse the broken image links.
