iPhone questions

Some questions and answers over the last few days:

  • Do you use a screen protector, and if so, what kind?
I use the Power Support Crystal Film Set for iPhone in the anti-glare (matte) version. The Power Support films use static cling and not adhesive.
  • How do you sync notes?
I use Missing Sync for iPhone from MarkSpace and sync over to Yojimbo. There is no two-way syncing yet for the iPhone. For more, read my mini-review of Missing Sync for iPhone.
  • How do you get those icon on your screen?
The ability to place bookmarks on your home screen came with the 1.1.3 update. If the web site author created a custom PNG for the web site, it will show up as that icon, and not as a snap of the page.

  • The Apple earbuds are awful Do you use something better?
I agree wholeheartedly. The Apple ones are uncomfortable for more than an hour or so for me. I bought the Shure MPA-3C Music Phone Adapter for iPhoneand the Shure SE210-K Sound Isolating Earphonesand have been very pleased. The former gives you control over the iPhone during calls and music playback. The latter have much better audio playback and the choice between soft silicon and coated foam earbuds for a lot more comfort.

Amazon beta MP3 store

I tried the Amazon MP3 beta store two night ago and came away pretty impressed. While the UI is not as slick as the dedicated iTunes application, searching, purchasing, and downloading music was very easy. I bought a few Amy Winehouse tracks, and the music was 89¢ or 99¢ a track, ripped at 256 VBR MP3 (LAME-encoded), came with album art, and no DRM. You have to download an app to buy full albums on Windows or Mac OS, but other than that, pretty good experience.
